2. UN criticises Bahrain for arrest of human rights activist

  • UN Human Rights Office issue statement condemning arrest of Nabeel Rajab on his return to Bahrain.
  • Rajab had been overseas discussing the human rights situation in Bahrain in role as head of Bahrain Centre for Human Rights. 
  • He has been charged with publicly insulting a government institution on social media and has been detained for a week pending investigation.
  • Bahrain's interior ministry told the BBC that Rajab 'acknowledged the charges'.
