Update: Comet landing imminent

  • The Philae lander has separated from the Rosetta orbiter, now en route to comet; separation was confirmed just after 9am GMT. 

  • Descent to comet surface expected to take around 7 hours; time delay between earth and Rosetta probe is 28 minutes and 20 seconds. 

  • Has been some technical issues, European Space Agency hoping to know if landing is successful or not around 4pm GMT. 

  • If successful, first images from the surface should emerge after 6pm GMT.
