Burton rebukes water protesters; further scuffles on Sunday

  • There were further anti-water protest scuffles in Ireland on Sunday as police and protesters clashed outside the Mansion House in Dublin where PM Enda Kenny was attending an event.
  • Tanaiste Joan Burton criticised organisers of a water charge protest that led to her being stuck in her car for over two hours in Dublin yesterday.
  • Burton told RTE that a child in the area could have been seriously injured; said Gardai were treated 'dreadfully badly'.
  • Referring to Anti Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy, Burton said: 'Deputy Murphy has to take responsibility for what he unleashed'; Murphy said Burton was attempting to demonise protesters.
