Yorkshire bird flu not H5N1

  • The British government say the case of Bird Flu found on a duck farm in Yorkshire is not the H5N1 strain of the virus.
  • All birds on the farm are being culled and a 10km restriction zone has been put in place.
  • Follows confirmed Dutch case at the weekend; outbreak at a farm in Hekendorp that was described as a 'highly pathogenic'; officials said while it was very harmful for birds, it was very unlikely to infect humans.
  • Dutch case identified as H5N8; European Commission to hold a meeting on bird flu today.
