Football chairman's remarks ignite controversy

  • Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has ignited further controversy around his club after making offensive remarks in an article published by the Guardian.
  • Whelan said there was nothing wrong with referring to a Chinese person as a 'chink'.
  • He is also quoted as saying, 'I think Jewish people do chase money more than everybody else. I don’t think that’s offensive at all', when asked about messages sent by new Wigan manager Malky Mackay.
  • Mackay is currently being investigated for the leaked messages, which contained racist and homophobic remarks.
