U.S politicians back Google ahead of European vote

  • Leading U.S politicians in Congress have written to leaders of main political blocs in the European Parliament expressing concern about proposals to curb Google's market dominance (FT).

  • European Parliament expected to vote on demand for Google to be broken up into separate companies on Thursday; though it has no power to enforce such a measure.

  • U.S mission to the European Union has also voiced concern.

  • In email first reported on by the Wall Street Journal, U.S mission says: 'It is important that the process of identifying competitive harms and potential remedies be based on objective and impartial findings and not be politicised'.
