Over 20 people killed in Burkina Faso hotel attack

  • Burkina Faso and French troops have regained control of a hotel in Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou after it was attacked by militants supposedly from Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. 

  • At least 20 people are said to have died in the assault on the Spledid Hotel and the nearby Cappuccino Cafe - Gilles Thibault, the French Ambassador to Burkina Faso, said 27 people had lost their lives in the attack. *

  • AQIM also claimed a similar attack in the Malian capital Bamako in November last year in which 19 people were killed. +
