Obama makes economic case for women's rights in Kenya

  • Speaking to a crowd of around 5,000 people in Nairobi, President Obama cautioned that Kenya was at a crossroads as it reached a moment 'filled with peril but enormous promise'.

  • Mr. Obama said that the country would be held back if it treated women as second class citizens.

Any nation that fails to educate its girls or employ its women and allow them to maximise their potential is doomed to fall behind the global economy. We’re in a sports centre: imagine if you have a team and don’t let half of the team play. That’s stupid. That makes no sense.
